ESOL for Health Project
Birmingham Adult Education Service is offering Free English Lessons to non-English speaking NHS patients. If patients have difficulty speaking English and need help communicating with their GP and Health Centre staff, they can join one of the free classes.
ESOL for Health Course 1 Days: Monday & Friday
Enrolment Starts: Monday 13 September 2010 Time: 1:00pm – 3:00pm
ESOL for Health Course 2 Days: Monday & Wednesday
Enrolment Starts: Monday 13 September 2010 Time: 5:30pm – 7:30pm
Patients will learn about:
- How to access the healthcare system, out of hours services and walk-in centres
- Services offered by Pharmacies
- How to communicate with your GP and Health Centre staff
- Healthy Lifestyle, how to eat well and the importance of staying healthy.
Recruitment criteria:
- NHS patients whose first language is not English
- Low-level English skills
- Adults 18 years or older
- Living in the area
- Remaining in the area for at least six months from the start of the course
- Recruitment via GP/Health Centre staff referral.
Enrolment will take place on Monday 13 September 2010 at the times specified above.
